Job Description

University: University of Manitoba

Country: Canada

Deadline: Not specified

Fields: Neuroscience, Regenerative Medicine, Stem Cell Biology, Biomedical Sciences, Bioinformatics

Are you passionate about advancing therapies for neurological diseases and eager to contribute to groundbreaking research in neural regeneration and stem cell biology? If your academic motivation is to make a real impact on the lives of patients with spinal cord injuries or multiple sclerosis, the Karimi Neural Regeneration and Stem Cell Laboratory at the University of Manitoba may provide the perfect environment to realize your ambitions.

About The University Or Research Institute

The University of Manitoba, located in Winnipeg, is one of Canada’s leading research-intensive institutions. As the oldest university in Western Canada, it prides itself on a long tradition of academic excellence, innovation, and community engagement. The university is renowned for its vibrant research culture and extensive collaboration with national and international partners, making it an ideal destination for students and scholars seeking to be at the forefront of scientific discovery. Winnipeg itself is a culturally rich city, offering an affordable cost of living, a welcoming atmosphere, and a supportive academic community for international and domestic students alike.

Research Topic and Significance

The Karimi Neural Regeneration and Stem Cell Laboratory is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in neural repair and regeneration, with a special focus on spinal cord injury (SCI) and multiple sclerosis (MS). The lab’s research addresses some of the most pressing challenges in neuroscience: understanding the pathogenesis of CNS injuries and diseases, and developing therapeutic strategies that leverage the body’s own regenerative capacities.

Current projects are funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and MS Canada, focusing on the mechanisms of neural repair, neuroinflammation, glial cell function, matrix remodeling, and cell death. The lab’s work is highly translational, aiming to bridge the gap between basic science and clinical application by developing and refining neural stem cell therapies and pharmacological interventions for SCI and MS. The impact of this research is far-reaching, with potential to transform the treatment landscape for debilitating neurological conditions.
