Job Description

American Welding & Gas has an exciting opportunity for a Fill Plant Operator - Specialty Gas, based in Indianapolis, IN.

This position supports preparation, filling, and distribution of specialty gas cylinders along with assisting in analytical lab.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform prefill cylinder inspections including verification of retest dates, removal of old labels, application of accurate and compliant labeling, etc..
  • Inspect, clean and prepare compressed gas cylinders in compliance with DOT, OSHA, and internal safety standards.
  • Prepare cylinders using bakeout, vacuum and purge systems.
  • Perform minor cylinder maintenance including valve and pressure relief device replacement
  • Stage cylinders for filling.
  • Prepare base mixed cylinders.
  • Assist specialty gas fill plant operators with processing cylinders.
  • Assist lab in preparing certificate of analysis (COA) and cylinder body labels.
  • Apply body labels to cylinders.
  • Prepare cylinders for shipment.
  • Monitor inventory supplies and consumables.
  • Operate forklift.
  • Serve as a communication liaison between production, lab, and quality departments.
  • Perform various other duties and activities assigned within the physical constraints of the job.


Qualifications & Requirements: 

  • High School Diploma/GED required.
  • Able to work in various environments including indoors and outdoors.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude and comfort working with tools and equipment.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively across teams.
  • Able to lift 50-75 pounds frequently and utilize mechanical lifting/maneuvering devices.
