Job Summary

The Production Manager is responsible for direct management of manufacturing and assembly operations across multiple facilities. This role ensures that daily output, quality, and safety targets are achieved by leading supervisors, line leads, and operators. The Production Manager drives execution at the shop-floor level, oversees workforce management, and champions continuous improvement, while aligning with broader operational strategies. The position is based in Houston, Texas, with travel to a secondary site in California as needed.

Duties & Essential Functions

  • Direct production activities to meet output, quality, and delivery requirements.

  • Assign and balance labor across sites, shifts, teams, and production lines.

  • Monitor production schedules and resolve bottlenecks or downtime issues in real time.

  • Manage and develop production supervisors, team leads, and staff.

  • Foster employee engagement through coaching, training, and performance feedback.

  • Promote cross-training and workforce flexibility to meet evolving business needs.

  • Ensure compliance with ISO 13485, FDA QSR, and GMP standards.

  • Partner with Quality Assurance to address deviations, CAPAs, and in-process inspections.

  • Reinforce a “right-first-time” culture to reduce scrap and improve First Pass Yield.

  • Implement Lean, 5S, and other process improvements at the operational level.

  • Track KPIs such as throughput, scrap, rework, and downtime.

  • Recommend tooling, process changes, and training to improve efficiency and reduce costs.

  • Ensure adherence to OSHA and HSE requirements across all production activities.

  • Lead Gemba walks and safety talks with frontline teams.

  • Build and maintain a culture of accountability, teamwork, and respect.

  • Travel between sites as needed (approximately 20%).

Required Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Industrial Management, or related field; equivalent experience will be considered.

  • 5+ years of production leadership experience in medical devices, life sciences, or another regulated industry.

  • Strong knowledge of ISO 13485, FDA QSR, and GMP requirements.

  • Proven ability to manage supervisors and operators in a fast-paced production environment.

  • Hands-on experience applying Lean tools and driving continuous improvement.

  • Proficiency with ERP/MRP systems and production dashboards (Power BI or similar preferred).

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and walk throughout the production floor for up to 8–10 hours per shift.

  • Ability to lift and move objects up to 40 pounds independently and up to 50 pounds with assistance.

  • Capacity to bend, stoop, reach, kneel, and climb as needed to perform inspections or oversee operations.

  • Manual dexterity to handle small parts, operate tools, and conduct inspections requiring fine hand–eye coordination.

  • Visual acuity to interpret technical drawings, displays, and instruments, including color indicators.

  • Hearing ability to detect alarms, machine signals, and instructions in environments with moderate to high noise levels.

  • Willingness to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to oils, lubricants, airborne particulates, and variable temperatures (PPE provided).
