Job Description

Transportation Engineer 7 Location Fairfax, VA :
  • Leads multi-disciplinary teams to support sales and delivery related to federal contracting opportunities with U.S. Department of Transportation agencies.
  • With high-level goals provided, identifies what federal transportation agencies and contracts provide opportunities for CDM Smith based on team strengths and alignment with our growth strategy.
  • Working with teams, coordinates sales strategy to pursue federal contracting opportunities, including mining bench/ IDIQ contracts. Collaborates with sales staff to create proposals in response to current and potential client requests for proposal (RFPs).
  • Reviews draft proposals for adherence to firm, industry, state, local and federal regulations and best practices, as appropriate.
  • Oversees federal contracting opportunities through delivery, including coordination between the client and delivery teams, as well as various prime and subconsultant partners.
  • Ensures comprehensive oversight of CDM Smith performance, quality assurance, and delivery aligned with contract scope, schedule, and costs.
  • Contributes to CDM Smith transportation growth strategy, with focus on federal transportation market, clients, and opportunities.
  • Contributes to firm's TKM by developing white papers related to federal, multi-disciplinary efforts.
  • Submits technical papers for publishing to technical journals.
  • Meets with current and potential future clients to review their current and future design needs.
  • Attends conferences, symposia, etc. to improve the visibility of the firm's products and services in collaboration with applicable sales staff, including TRB.
  • Acts as the primary point of contact for external client and related industry contact.
  • Collaborates with clients and government officials to clarify technical questions provides updates to project management as necessary.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Provides technical guidance and training to more junior staff.
  • Mentors more junior staff and develops them for future growth within the discipline and firm.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    • Bachelor's degree in Civil, transportation, or Structural Engineering or related discipline.
    • Professional engineering (PE) license.
    • 12 years of related experience.
    • Domestic and/or international travel may be required. The frequency of travel is contingent on specific duties, responsibilities, and the essential functions of the position, which may vary depending on workload and project demands.
    • Equivalent additional directly related experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Knowledge of U.S. Department of Transportation agencies, contracting opportunities and methods, and service needs.
    • Knowledge of how changing administrative priorities will impact U.S. Department of Transportation consultant support needs, as well as overall impacts to CDM Smith transportation business.
    • Knowledge of federally oriented groups and associations like NCHRP/ TRB.
