Position Overview

The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire an Account Technician I for the Shapiro Center located in Kankakee, Illinois to perform technical accounting functions in the preparation, maintenance, and input of detailed account records for appropriations accounting, purchasing, accounts payable and miscellaneous collections. Receipts and submits to State Treasurer monies collected. Dispenses petty cash and ensures proper documentation is obtained. Serves as back-up to account technician counterparts. Travels in performance of job duties.

Essential Functions

  • Performs technical accounting functions.

  • Inputs into computer, appropriations, accounting data, vouchers, travel vouchers, service contracts, special requisitions, release orders, purchase orders, quarterly, increases/decreases in allotments for service contracts, food surveys, commitments, and obligations.

  • Upon approval from the petty cash custodian, dispenses petty cash and ensures proper documentation is obtained.

  • Monitors purchase requests for signatures and consent to purchase.

  • Maintains record of miscellaneous collections and submits check to the State Treasurer.

  • Prepares, sorts, and applies postage to letters and packages for out-going mail.

  • Serves as back-up to account technician counterparts to ensure locally held accounts including Trust Fund, Special Trust (Amusement) and Workshop are maintained.

  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonable within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college and completion of an approved training course OR requires three (3) years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.

  • Qualifying state employees, in the employee Upward Mobility Program, may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the stated requirements for this class.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.

  • Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekend and holidays.

  • Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.

  • Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.

  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
